Keyboard Lightwriters

The SL35 is our most popular model and is extremely well proven over many years of use. The SL35 includes everything you would expect from a custom-designed communication aid and is packed with many advanced features. The wide range of setups allows it to be configured to meet individual needs.

Our specially designed LightTouch keyboard requires very low operating force and can therefore be used as long as possible if finger muscles weaken.

This has a Keytools BigKeys Plus keyboard with a keyguard permanently fitted and is designed for users who need a significantly larger keyboard than standard.

This keyboard has 19mm (¾") square keys on a 25mm (1") pitch, and is available in QWERTY or ABC or layouts.
Splashproof membrane fitted over the keyboard as standard.

We offer two models of Lightwriter with larger keyboards than standard, each based on the Lightwriter SL35, and designed for people who need a larger keyboard. The SL35/Cherry has a laptop computer-sized keyboard and is particularly suited for people who type with two hands.

This keyboard has 16mm (5/8") square keys on a 19 mm (¾") pitch, in QWERTY layout only.

The SL38 has all the features of the SL35 and is supplied to suit the North American and European markets with Acapela speech with multiple languages pre-installed. For North America it has American English HQ installed, and Spanish, French, and Italian pre-installed but deactivated. For European markets it has German or French installed, and several other languages pre-installed but deactivated. Customers can have one or more of these additional languages activated either at time of purchase, or at a later date.

The SL5 is a low cost Lightwriter with dual LCD displays but without the option of speech or printing facility.

Dual keyboard Lightwriters permit continuous two-way communication with the communication partner. They are designed to allow people without speech or hearing to communicate directly with people who do not use sign language, and have also been found very suitable to some people with autism.

The user types on one keyboard and their message appears on both displays. The person they are communicating with reads the message on the second display and responds on the second keyboard; each message appears simultaneously on each display, and is also spoken if a speech synthesiser is fitted.

Dual keyboard Lightwriters permit continuous two-way communication with the communication partner. They are designed to allow people without speech or hearing to communicate directly with people who do not use sign language, and have also been found very suitable to some people with autism.

The SL87 Lightwriter is a compact integrated scanning communication aid, with very high legibility. The keyboard permits users with progressive conditions to migrate from direct selection to scanning at their own pace, with no delays in reassessment, ordering, or supply. When the SL87 is used in scanning mode, the keyboard allows faster creation of user memories and change of setups by the therapist or carer.
