Hello, my name is Morgan and I am 18 years old I live in Melbourne with my parents and two sisters.
Because I have ataxia it is difficult for me to walk and talk clearly but I like to do lots of things and talk to people. I always try to talk first but if people can’t understand me I use my Lightwriter®.
When I finish school at the end of this year I hope to work part-time and go to college part-time and ride a lot. People who don’t know me often have trouble understanding me and I will need to use my Lightwriter® more of the time.
I love to ride. In the next year I am hoping to qualify in Para-Equestrian Dressage for the Paralympics. I am currently looking for sponsorship to get my next horse which needs to be of a standard that I can compete internationally so I will have a chance of being selected.
I also love listening to music and dancing and expressing myself through music. I share this passion with my friend Mel Smith and I am co-presenting a paper with her on dance at ISAAC 2010 in Barcelona. I also I do freestyle dressage to music on my horse.
I have always used AAC and got my first electronic device at four years-old. I have been using a Lightwriter® since I was eight years old. I have recently started using the Lightwriter® SL40 and I love it! The word prediction is very easy for me use and makes it a lot quicker to get sentences ready and picking stored phrases is easy. I really like the texting because it is a lot easier to use than my mobile phone.
