Toby Churchill Ltd awarded the 2011 Queen’s Award For Enterprise, International Trade.

We are thrilled to announce that Toby Churchill Ltd has been awarded the 2011 Queens Award For Enterprise within the category of International Trade for the sales of the Lightwriter communication aid. Sales of this product spans across 23 countries worldwide and it is translated into 13 different languages.
To date more than 100,000 people enjoy a better quality of life through an increasing ability to communicate using Lightwriter products. All this has been achieved through the sheer dedication of the employees of Toby Churchill Ltd since it was founded by Toby Churchill in 1973.
Circumstances that lead to the use of a communication aid are many and varied and include cerebral palsy, motor neurone disease, Huntingdon’s disease, throat cancer, stroke and other acquired brain conditions that can reduce or remove the ability to speak. The placement of a device is done through careful consultation with health and education professionals.
Since the change of ownership of the company from Toby Churchill to our current owner, David Collison, the company’s turnover has grown to £4.3m a year, of which 75% is exports.
In commenting on the announcement of the 2011 Queens Award for Enterprise, David Collison, stated “Four years ago it was a great honour to take over the company that Toby Churchill, himself, had started in 1973. I am delighted that we have this public recognition of the great work that Toby commenced, which I now carry on through my stewardship.”
We do indeed want to celebrate this recognition and we want to thank everyone who has worked at Toby Churchill Ltd, past and present, our suppliers, and of course our distributors and customers. Most of all we would like to thank Her Majesty The Queen for this award and we promise to do all that we can to build on the success that was started by Toby Churchill in 1973.
